Porches and Porticos

A portico is a small porch over an entrance to a home that many times is supported by columns.  It is a welcoming area and provides protection from the elements for guests, front entryway and foyer.  Porticos can have significant influence on the curb appeal and style of a home, so when adding one it is important to blend it with the current architectural style of the house.  The styles and materials that can be used are nearly endless, but the elements chosen should complement and be in proportion with the current design of your home.  Enhancing your home with a front portico will update curb appeal and pay dividends over time.

A porch is a larger area on the front or rear of the home and can wrap around.  It usually has a larger area for seating and is also a wonderful element for great curb appeal.  Like porticos, it protects the front entryway and can also help with energy savings by shielding windows from direct sunlight.
