Our most recently completed full exterior remodel in Lothian, MD is an absolute show-stopper! So much has changed that it doesn’t even look like the same house. The house sits on a beautiful piece of property in rural Lothian, surrounded by farmland. The homeowners, Dave and Terri Morauer, knew the house required some updating and said, “Our project was motivated by needing a new roof and siding. We decided that if we were investing the time and resources into making those changes, that we wanted to have a home that truly reflects our family and the area that we live in.” We were excited that we were their chosen contractor to work on a project of this magnitude. The Morauers said they chose Fichtner Home Exteriors because of our “outstanding reputation. We had family that worked with them and they were impressed not only by the quality and craftsmanship, but also the way that they stand by their work.”

Starting from the top down, Fichtner Home Exteriors went to work! The project began by removing the existing roof shingles and reframing the ends of the roof lines to create gables rather than hips adding to the streamlined farmhouse style the homeowners were looking for. We then installed GAF Timberline HDZ Charcoal shingles.

Next, we removed the existing siding and brick façade on the front. Our remodeling department reframed the front entryway and built a new, welcoming front porch along with several other window and door overhangs, all accented by black standing seam steel roofs with beautiful fir ceilings. The homeowners love the new front porch saying, “We are thrilled with the finished product. Fichtner surpassed our expectations. Our favorite part is the front porch, which was a new addition to the house.”

The exterior shell was completed with James Hardie Board and Batten Arctic White siding and trim, a style true to farmhouse architecture. The renovation was wrapped up by adding new black gutters and downspouts, tying the project together.

The last part of the project, and a first for Fichtner Home Exteriors, was to build an outdoor shower. We used materials that would stand up to the water and crafted it in such a way that it blends in nicely with the rest of the property.

Our goal was to choose materials and a design that would stand the test of time, and truly reflect where we live. We knew we wanted to use quality materials that would have longevity so we didn’t have to do this job again for a long time! Our goals were definitely achieved.

- Homeowner

All in all, we are extremely proud of the way that the project turned out.  The homeowners were very easy to work with, had a detailed vision and had done their homework in preparation for the project, which took about 6 months to complete.  We are also very happy about what they had to say about us: “Working with Nolan and Ray was a pleasure. They had good ideas, and more importantly, good solutions, to whatever issues came up. I would absolutely recommend Fichtner to anyone who is in need of this type of work. They did an outstanding job for us!”

The homeowners also wanted to recognize the men who did the remodeling and said, “I also wanted to share positives about the crew of people that come and actually do the job. I was very impressed with how hardworking all of your guys are, in terms of showing up early, working consistently, and staying until the job was done. I was amazed at how many evenings they would still be working on the roof or siding, well after most people would have gone home. Other than a standard lunch break, these guys worked. Everyone was courteous and pleasant to talk to, and they all took pride in what they were doing.”
