Project of the Month:

“The Amberley Colonial”

Our “Home of the Month” features a beautiful colonial situated on a treed lot in the Amberley neighborhood of Annapolis.  The home was built in 1971, and the homeowners, the Vogels, who purchased the home in 2018, decided it was time for an update. “We loved the neighborhood, footprint, and interior of the home.  However, the outside was dated and did not reflect our personal style.”

“We were looking to transform our 50 year old colonial into a modern farmhouse that blended both classic and contemporary aesthetics.  We drew inspiration from various sources with further refinement and guidance from Fichtner Services”, said homeowner, Jeff Vogel.  Tom Fichtner and Nolan Redd, Fichtner’s Production Manager, collaborated with the Vogels on using various products, styles and colors on their home.  Ultimately, for roofing the Vogels chose a Charcoal GAF Timberline roof and black standing seam steel on the garage and right side bump out.  In keeping with the modern farmhouse look, white Certainteed Board and Batten siding was installed with new black trim and aluminum gutters.  Fichtner also built a new portico to bring an inviting feeling to the front door of the home.  The new structure was built with a steel standing seam roof, cedar for the posts, ceiling and trim and stonework by local mason, Larry Rupp, of Chalk Point Masonry.

The Vogels are very pleased with their finished project.  We asked them how the experience was from start to finish and this is what they had to say, “We had observed Fichtner Services’ quality of work in various projects throughout the Annapolis area and felt that they could bring our vision to life.  We were also looking for a team that could provide project management for our entire exterior renovation.  From day one, Tom Fichtner and his team exceeded our expectations.  Their communication and attention to detail exceeded the other companies that we contacted for estimates.  Tom and his team carefully walked us through our design and material options to ensure that our vision would be reflected in the final product.  As the project commenced it was clear that we had made the right choice.  Fichtner Services’ project management gave us peace of mind throughout the entire project and the end results clearly reflect the craftsmanship and skill of their team.”

We think this project captures the essence of a modern farmhouse and the homeowners were a joy to work with.  We love meeting and exceeding our customers’ expectations and are always happy when they love the finished product.

“The finished project exceeded our goals – Fichtner Services crafted a beautiful home exterior that reflects our personal style and puts a smile on our face each day when we arrive home.”
